Meet the Design Team

Welcome to our Meet the Design Team series! Where we feature one of our incredible DT members, giving you a chance to learn more about them, their creativity, and what inspires them. Let’s dive in!

About: Heather

Location: Ontario, Canada

A Little About Me: I’m married to a fantastic husband of almost 20 years, have 4 wonderful children, and 3 grandkids. We live just north of Toronto, Ontario. I’ve been crafting for as long as I can remember. Being creative has always brought me so much joy, and over the years, I’ve explored many crafts, from ceramics and t-shirt painting to smocking dresses and more.

I’m actually a trained Interior Designer, although I never worked directly in the industry. Instead, I built a career in construction project management, which I truly enjoyed until I retired 6 years ago. My paper-crafting journey began around 2007, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I started with simple scrapbook pages, but over time, my designs became more detailed and complex. Eventually, I discovered the fun of adding interactive elements, which naturally led me to creating mini albums. Whether I’m working from a kit or building something completely from scratch, I love including as many flips and flaps as possible. The more interactive, the better!

Since joining the ECD Design Team, I’ve had an absolute blast playing with David’s new releases and diving deeper into the world of art journaling. If you’ve watched any of my live videos, you’ve probably noticed that I still find ways to add interactive elements whenever I can. One of the biggest highlights so far has been meeting Els and Joep at the Scrapbook Expo in Schaumburg, along with so many wonderful members of our crafting community. It was such a special experience!

My Favorite Project

Why It’s My Favorite: This art journal page is one of my favorites because it shows how a die can be used in an unexpected way, adding a fun, interactive element. I’m absolutely thrilled with how this page turned out! The gold paste and gold paper bring such a beautiful touch of elegance, catching the light and elevating the whole design. The stencils from the Hinged to the Past collection create a stunning background effect, while the large die from the Laced set forms a delicate, eye-catching background that ties everything together perfectly.

I created a tutorial for this project when I made it, which you can read here: https://blog.ecraftdesigns.com/elizabeth-craft-designs/create-interactive-elements-for-your-journals

Craft Tip or Must-Have Tool

My Favorite Crafting Tool or Tip: Share a Crafty Tip: Most people don’t know this, but when scoring paper, always fold it with the bump on the inside. It seems wrong, but it helps your paper not to crack.

ECD Tool You Can’t Live Without:
Definitely the Torn die set. I love that torn paper effect for my ATC’s, and those dies make great journaling boxes on pages. They are even great for cutting photos!

A Peek Into My Craft Space

About My Craft Space: We live in a small home, so I have made myself a very efficient craft nook in our basement family room. Almost everything is within reach or just a little stretch from my chair. I like to organize, so I am constantly changing up my cubbies to make the most of the space.  I try to keep things as visible as possible so that I’m more likely to use them.
