Design Team Spotlight

Welcome to our Design Team Spotlight series! Where we feature one of our incredible DT members, giving you a chance to learn more about them, their creativity, and what inspires them. Let’s dive in!

About Di

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma (USA)

A Little About Me: I’m Di (pronounced Dee, not like the princess). My husband and I have been married for 35 years. We have two kind and creative children. My family tree is filled with do-it-yourselfers, and my mother always requested that we ‘make’ our gifts to her. So, making things by hand is very much a part of who I am. I learned to sew when I was young and made clothes for my Barbies. Scrapbooking began as a teenager, and much later, I made “thank you” cards after our daughter was born.

The Everyday Elements Design Team has been a wonderful challenge. It’s so inspiring to see the wide range of beautiful creations that the team makes with each new release!

My Favorite Project

Project Title: Layered Bee Box

Why It’s My Favorite: My favorite Design Team Project so far is a cigar box that I altered into ATC storage. The idea for the box developed from my need to contain all of my ATCs, and the cigar box was the perfect size for them.

It was fun to incorporate layers of different mediums on the project: acrylic paint over honeycomb die-cuts, texture paste through a stencil, brown ink for a distressed look, and even a thin layer of Silk Microfine Glitter in some areas.

The postage stamp dies fit the sides of the box perfectly, and other pretty Everyday Elements shapes were added, such as the beautiful Layered Honeybee on top. The Postage Stamps (#2026) die set is still one of my favorites!

Some of the original cigar decorations (navy blue labels) remain as a little nod to the box’s origins.

Craft Tip or Must-Have Tool

My Favorite Crafting Tool: I would find it difficult to create without my favorite Fine Pointed Tweezers to pick up tiny die pieces and embellishments.

And TIP:

My crafting tip: if your paper trimmer is tearing when cutting from the end, start cutting in the middle, then slide the blade end-to-end. I don’t know why, but it works.

A Peek Into My Craft Space

About My Craft Space: My craft room is the area above our garage. The space's best features are two tables my talented brother built for me. The tables have storage on the ends, a durable stainless steel top, and room for a few friends to craft, too. It’s a wonderful room for crafting! I wish you were here.
