Make a Pocket Page Element for Your Journal
Are you a crafter who loves adding layers and pockets to your journal pages? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to create interactive elements for your journals but weren’t sure where to start? In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make your own pocket page. Learn the techniques to create a decorative element you can attach to any journal layout!
Step 1: Cut out four pieces using the pocket die from the Playful Grunge die set. I used white cardstock so I could decorate as I wished, but if you are using patterned paper, be mindful of the direction of the pattern; otherwise, when you fold it down, the pattern will be upside down.
Step 2:
Take two of the four pieces and on one of them, cut the long side tab off, leaving the short end tab intact. On the remaining piece, fold and crease both tabs. On the piece with the bottom tab, fold and crease the tab.
3. Take the remaining two pieces and on one of them cut off all of the tabs. And on the last piece, leave all the tabs intact then fold and crease those tabs.
Step 4: Take the piece with no tabs and one of the pieces with both folded and creased tabs, lay them flat next to each other, being sure to line them up. Tape or glue the bottom tab to the bottom piece that doesn't have any tabs.
Step 5: Take the second piece with two tabs and tape or glue it on top of the piece that doesn't have any tabs; creating your first pocket.
Step 6: You will have a loose piece that has the bottom tab intact. Line it up with the remaining piece that has the side tab intact and tape or glue it on top of that piece. This will create your second pocket. Make sure not to overlap the bottom edges and leave a little space between the two pocket bottoms; it will make it easier to fold the pockets creating your pocket page edge.
Step 7: After all the pieces are taped or glued together, fold it in half. Decorate with any medium you like, including ephemera, stamps, and more. I used a rusty paperclip to hold it to my journal page.
Here are some more pictures of my decorated packet page. You can see how easy it is to add to your journals with a paper clip. I hope I have inspired you to create your own pocket page in your journals.
