How to Make Beautiful Flower Clusters for your 3D Floral Cards
Do you love creating elegant 3D floral cards, but struggle to make realistic-looking roses and flower clusters? In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create beautiful floral clusters. Learning how to mix larger blooms with buds and foliage to create natural and realistic-looking clusters that will look stunning on all your handmade cards and gifts.
Hello everyone! Karan here. I love using many leaves and florals on my cards to have them look as realistic as possible and one way to do that is to have a full bouquet.
Step 1: Begin by selecting the florals and background for your card. On my card, I am using the Festive Ornate Frame 2274. I cut this out on white cardstock, then added a layer of gold mirri card, adhered the two together, and just offset the gold mirri behind the white so the gold is peeking through just a bit.
Step 2: The background panel was cut from patterned paper. To add some extra interest and color to the background, apply some Peeled Paint Distress Ink and, then splatter with gold paint.
Step 3: The main focus of this card is the florals. For the two large Roses, I cut each layer out twice, which will give a very full floral. I then colored and shaped my roses, adhering the layers together.
Step 4: Create buds by cutting out the smaller flowers twice for each bud. Color one green; this will be your leaf base, and the second, color it the same color you use for your rose. Shape them and glue them together.
Die-cut your greenery and any extra small florals. I colored my greenery using Peeled Paint Distress Ink. I most always cut my greenery and leaves down to tuck them under my florals. A full leaf is just a bit too big at times, so cutting the stem piece off lets me add more filler to floral clusters.
Step 5: Now that you have all your elements, you can build your clusters. Begin by adding your leaves, then your large florals (for this card, the rose). I then decided how to tuck in my smaller florals and the buds where I feel they need to go to create a full-looking cluster. I also really enjoy adding stamens or mini beads from my stash to detail my florals. Adding in a touch of gold die cuts (which I always cut apart and use smaller pieces to enhance my clusters) is also a great way to add layers to your clusters, too.
This is how I build my clusters for my cards, and perhaps now you have a wonderful way of building your floral clusters too. I hope I have inspired you to add some fillers, smaller florals, and buds to your handmade cards.
