18th Day Of Craftsmas!

It’s the 18th day of Craftsmas, and today, here’s design team member Sasha sharing how she made a beautiful Christmas card using the Adorable Meet the Mice collection.

Hello everyone! I'm Sasha, and today, I'm sharing how I created an adorable Christmas-themed card featuring the latest release from the Cute and Whimsical collection!

When I'm working with die-cuts, my favourite way to bring them to life is by colouring them using alcohol markers. So, I wanted to share how I use alcohol markers to colour die-cuts! Today, I'm going to be using the Big Mouse Die #2203, Christmas Accessories Die Set #2205 and Mice Sentiments CS387 to create the card.

First I started by die-cutting all the pieces I would need. Since I am colouring my die-cuts using alcohol markers, I made sure to die-cut the pieces from an appropriate, alcohol-marker-friendly cardstock. Doing so will allow for an easier time when it comes to creating seamless blends between colours.

To make the colouring process easier, I like to take a scrap piece of cardstock and tape down the die-cut pieces using some low-tack tape. By taping the pieces in place, the pieces will not move around, and it becomes easier to colour each piece.

When it comes to colouring with alcohol markers, it can take a lot of practice, but it is an incredibly fun and rewarding activity! I always start from my darkest colour and work to my lightest colour, typically working with 3-5 different coloured markers for any given colour combination. A trick that I often do is that once I am done colouring using alcohol markers, I will then use coloured pencils to smooth out any of my colour blends or to add more colour and depth to my colouring.

Once I was done colouring, I glued the die-cut pieces together and moved on to create a simple background that would nicely complement the Christmas mouse. Using red ink, I ink-blended some ink at the top of a US A2-sized card base, gradually fading out the colour to create a one-ink gradient. I then splattered white paint onto the card and stamped a sentiment from the Mice Sentiments Stamp Set. To finish off the card, I glued down the Christmas mouse.

I hope you have an amazing, craft-filled holiday season. Thank you for reading.
